The Government has chosen to put abortion on demand on the ballot paper, Save the 8th has said. The text of the proposal to be put to the people, according to RTE news, will read: “Provision may be made by law for the regulation of termination of pregnancies”
Responding, Niamh Uí Bhriain of Save the 8th said:
“If this referendum is passed, there will be no constitutional protection for the unborn child at any stage of pregnancy. The public are guaranteed two things: that abortion on demand will be introduced immediately for the first three months of pregnancy, right up to the second trimester. And that in future, abortion on demand can be extended to later and later in pregnancy without a vote by the public.
This is an extreme proposal that will repulse most voters, whose genuine concerns have been hijacked by pro-choice lobbyists in order to ram a UK-style abortion model past the Irish electorate. We will campaign with all our strength to defeat it, and we are going to win”.
